Why are you passionate about New Media?

I believe that the invention of the Internet will prove to be one of the largest catalysts for societal change in the history of mankind. The ability to communicate and share ideas in real-time with people who are not only in the next office, but thousands of kilometers away will change the very nature of society, dissolving the barriers of culture and distance. New Media in 2010 is just the beginning, transforming traditional media consumers into media producers. This is probably most evident in the decline of print newspapers and the rise of blogs and user-submitted content.

Where do you pull inspiration from?

As a web developer, I love looking at other people's sites and seeing novel ways they are presenting information to others. Frameworks like jQuery and the Zend Framework allow me to not only work faster and produce higher-quality code, but also give me the opportunity to see how other developers are solving problems.

What book is on your nightstand?

I usually have a few books on the go at any one time... I'm currently reading:

  • Superfreakonomics, by Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt (the follow up to the equally fascinating Freakonomics)

  • Snow Crash, by Neal Stephenson

  • Quicksilver, by Neal Stephenson

What do you wear on Casual Fridays?

I've only had one casual Friday so far, and I wore jeans and a tee shirt.

Most memorable Brilliant Room Moment?

When John offered me a job!

Mantra to live by.

There's no place like $HOME.

Whom do you admire?

My dog Ralph... he's always happy when I come home, always there to cheer me up, and he finally stopped chewing on my shoelaces!
