It is 40 below today with the windchield. I backed out of my driveway forgetting to unplug my car. When I got to the office I discovered that I had bent one of the prongs on my cord that is hooked up to my block heater and my interior car warmer. I spent 10 minutes in the freezing cold trying to bend the prong back into shape so that I could plug it in. Aside from my block heater and interior car warmer I also had a remote car starter installed. When you live in this climate all three of these devices are pretty much a necessity. I get a lot of questions about my car starter from friends who are interested in one but are not sure about the installation and reliability.
Things are about to get a little less complicated. Word has it that Blackberry and Viper are joining forces to eliminate key fobs and allow us to start the car, lock or unock it and open the trunk from afar using our Blackberry! My current car starter has a fairly limited operating distance. This new system virtually lets you do any of these functions from anywhere in the country. You are out of town and your wife needs something out of the trunk of your car that you left in the garage - voila! You are in a meeting with a client that has gone on for a few hours and your car was left in their lot unplugged in -40. Hit a button and let it run for a few minutes to make sure that it will start when you leave later.
How long before one device literally operates everything electronic that we own. Soon I hope!

The holidays are upon us. Is your inner Geek yearning for the next big techy toy? Do you have a teen age Geek lurking about who is only tolerable when lavished with the newest and greatest? What to get that Geek in your office who squeals like a young girl when talking about the latest killer app or gadget. Here are 5 Great Geek Gifts as outlined by Brace Rennels from Tech News World.
- VERIZON DROID - It has all the touchscreen functionality of the iPhone but with a slide out keyboard. Recently named "Gadget of the Year" by Time magazine.
- THE POWERMAT - You can charge up to 3 devices. It sits flat and you lay the devices on it to get charged.
- BOSE NOISE CANCELLATION HEADPHONES - The buzz on these is that they very effectively tune out the background noise allowing you to focus on the task at hand.
- AMAZON KINDLE OR SONY READER - An e-reader ought to get them reading the last sci-fi release or get them reading even more manuals.
- A GIFT BASKET - A gift basket with healthy choices in it will ensure that they don't get lost in cyber space and forget their much needed nutrition. Throw in a little coffee and Red Bull in case they are on a non-stop gamer quest.
Have a great holiday season.

Is Bing going to become the new Google? Microsoft's big idea is to have their new search engine "Bing" become part of the operating system for windows. Uncle Bill (Gates) is prepared to throw over $10 billion at Bing for it to gain traction against the 800lb gorilla known as Google.
Can Google be toppled?
That is the 10 billion dollar question.
Give us your feedback if you have tried Bing and what you think of it. I think the 80% market share for Google is not in any danger any time soon.... But having said that, I thought the fax machine was here to stay 20 years ago.

I read an article recently by Don Reisinger on CNET News that talked about the growing web use of seniors using Neilsen statistics. While seniors currently make up less than 10 percent of active web users, their internet usage has increased over the last 5 years by a whopping 55 percent from 11.3 million active users to 17.5 million active users. The amount of time that they surf has increased as well from 52 hours per month to more than 58 hours per month. 88.6 percent of seniors check their email online. In the past year Facebook has gone from 45th place to 3rd place in the most popular destinations for seniors. They are socializing, emailing, blogging, mapping and checking the weather online. Advertisers and marketers take heed, Gray power is sweeping the web. Instead of asking our kids for help on all things electronic and online we may soon be texting Grandma and Grandpa for help.
