It is 40 below today with the windchield. I backed out of my driveway forgetting to unplug my car. When I got to the office I discovered that I had bent one of the prongs on my cord that is hooked up to my block heater and my interior car warmer. I spent 10 minutes in the freezing cold trying to bend the prong back into shape so that I could plug it in. Aside from my block heater and interior car warmer I also had a remote car starter installed. When you live in this climate all three of these devices are pretty much a necessity. I get a lot of questions about my car starter from friends who are interested in one but are not sure about the installation and reliability.
Things are about to get a little less complicated. Word has it that Blackberry and Viper are joining forces to eliminate key fobs and allow us to start the car, lock or unock it and open the trunk from afar using our Blackberry! My current car starter has a fairly limited operating distance. This new system virtually lets you do any of these functions from anywhere in the country. You are out of town and your wife needs something out of the trunk of your car that you left in the garage - voila! You are in a meeting with a client that has gone on for a few hours and your car was left in their lot unplugged in -40. Hit a button and let it run for a few minutes to make sure that it will start when you leave later.
How long before one device literally operates everything electronic that we own. Soon I hope!
