Background
I was one of the fortunate ones who came out of high school knowing what I wanted to do. Inspired by my English and Journalism teacher, local writer Sheldon Oberman, I pursued journalism at Ryerson and translated my work into writing for major publications, ranging from The Winnipeg Free Press to The Hockey News, along with becoming a multi-time published author. Even before I got to Ryerson, I was already contributing to SLAM! Sports, Sun Media's website, and learning the ins and outs of the online world. A summer job at Credit Union Central of Manitoba solidified that the web was for me.
I developed my penchant for marketing through my first couple first time jobs and in the volunteer pursuits I have enjoyed.
What gets you going in the morning?
The oh-so gentle bark from my dog, telling me it’s time to be let out.
Your favourite geek out activity:
Studying movies and television for subliminal advertising.
The three websites you can't go two days without reading:
- Twitter – Every piece of news and opinion I could ever want in one convenient spot.
- Hobby Insider – The sports memorabilia collector in me dominates my surfing.
- LinkedIn – I admit it – I check connection updates on a regular basis to see who I can next link up with.
Your favourite trip:
For personal, my honeymoon in Cuba with my wife. 8 days of sand and surf, with some dolphin-riding and great photographs mixed in. For work, my excursion to Montreal for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Nothing beats wearing a Bruins jersey in the middle of the Bell Centre and having post-draft drinks with the execs from the Philadelphia Flyers.
Words to live by:
No dress rehearsals, this is our life.
