As sponsors and HUGE fans of Folklorama, Hep is very proud to produce, host and maintain the website for Folklorama: http://www.folklorama.ca/
I was asked to make the website a little more friendly and easier to find information on the various Pavilions. One thing that I heard a lot when talking to my friends was how it would be great to have an interactive map for the Pavilions, like the ones printed in the guide but more awesome.
I am VERY proud to present my new Interactive Pavilions Map for 2010! Check it out now at: http://www.folklorama.ca/pavilions-map
It's using an alphabet soup of acronyms, frameworks and technologies and boy is it tasty! I used the Google Maps API to display the map, Google Charts API to make the custom-colored and labelled markers, AJAX and JSON to retrieve the information about the Pavilions, and then jQuery to bring it all together and do the snazzy accordion effects (and many other things).

As a huge Mandela fan, I follow The Elders quite closely and was pleasantly surprised to see today that they have had their website built in JOOMLA! Another score for why we do what we do.
"Mandela is part of The Elders, a group of well respected global leaders. This week the Elders put full their full support behind the Every Human Has Rights campaign. They aim to enact the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which says that “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.”
The Elders members include such notables as Desmond Tutu, Mary Robinson, Graça Machel, Ela Bhatt, Jimmy Carter, and Kofi Annan. They hope their support will help ensure the United Nation'sMillenium Development Goals are met much more quickly.

While Facebook has made a significant change to the way Businesses will handle their followers on Facebook. They just announced that rather than 'Becoming a Fan' of a business or organizations page, you would press 'Like' --> their hope is that more connections will be made since this is more low-key than officially becoming a fan of a page.
